Depending on where you're reading this, you may be unaware of this story. So, a little background:
On September 28, Polk County (Lakeland, FL) Sheriff's Deputy Matthew Williams and his K-9 partner Diogi were gunned down by alleged human being Angilo Freeland after a routine traffic stop. Deputy Williams was shot execution-style eight (8) times at point-blank range (including once in the back of the head and once in the temple) with his own service revolver. This "man" also shot and wounded another Deputy and exchanged fire with a Lakeland Police Detective.
A massive manhunt took place, and the next day he was found hiding beneath a fallen oak tree in the woods near the scene of the shootings. SWAT Team members ordered him to show his hands. Instead, he pulled his gun and was shot and killed. Of the 110 bullets fired by the SWAT Team, 68 found their mark.
Freeland was known to always carry a firearm and was heavily involved in the illegal drug trade.
Now, his suddenly concerned family has hired somewhat big-time lawyer Grady Irvin. They're requesting an independent investigation be started to determine why their son had to be shot 68 times.
So, they'd like to know who decided their son deserved to die, huh? How about asking who decided that Deputy Williams and Diogi deserved to die?
The family stated they had no contact with their son for several years prior to this incident and knew nothing of his recent activities. I'm sorry, but that's no excuse. Maybe if they'd been as concerned about his life as they were about his death, this tragedy needn't have happened. By tragedy, I mean the loss of life to the Police Officers, not their murderer.
And maybe if you'd done a better job of raising your son, he wouldn't have become a drug dealer and cop killer.
I say the parents should be made to pay for every dime that went into the investigation and manhunt for this dirtbag. I also believe that they should be made to pay for the officer's funerals and pay restitution to the Deputy's family. Deputy Williams was murdered on his wife's birthday.
The family of this cop killer deserves nothing but contempt. The only surprising part of all this nonsense is that we didn't have Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton down here holding Press Conferences and demanding accountability from the Police. Thank God for small favors.
The only thing I'd ask of the police is this: Why did you miss 42 times?
